Welcome Back Wayne PDF Print E-mail

Today Wayne returned for the first time since our Border Track outing.  He's been busy jet setting around the world for both work and pleasure, although apparently he's yet to master the art of the junket and actually did work while in India and the US.  Wayne show true commitment to Team Insanity (and a little actual insanity) by flying into Brisbane at 7am and then rocking up for a training walk at 10am.  To welcome Wayne back we headed to Nerang State Forest for a "short" 20km loop.

This was one of our later starts for a training run and the warmer weather allowed us to leave the jumpers at the car and travel slightly lighter.  The trek was fairly uneventful.  We only saw two other teams out practising, a few mountain bikers and a bunch of rather loud trail bikes (smell the serenity).  So for the most part we had the trails and the views all to ourselves ... although Brock departed from his standard upbeat view of life and complained that the forest looked exactly the same as Daisy Hill and was boring.  In need of an attitude adjustment Brock took some advice from his dodgy doctor and took some Hammer Gel shortly before we reached the only real hill of the day.  He then proceeded to bounce up the hill and generally annoy everyone.

The walk took just under 4 hours in all.  The only problem of the day was Shane's dodgy knee which required strapping for the last 20 mins ... apparently the trekking poles aren't as effective at reducing knee damage when you just carry them down a hill while eating an apple.  Lesson learned ... hopefully.

At the end of the day we had our standard non-productive discussion about were we would go the following week ... as the only real idea that was floated was doing the Mini Kokoda, we went with that.
